Wow. We learned a lot today about what’s coming to Disney+, Disney’s upcoming digital streaming service, and boy, are we excited for what’s to come. I mean, The Simpsons? What a wonderful way to welcome Fox to the Disney family! And there’s so much more. Not only will the streaming service house a robust library of TV shows and movies we already know and love, but in year one it will release more than 25 original series and 10 original films, documentaries, and specials from some of our favorite storytellers. We’ve already learned about the new nonfiction series coming to the service, and about a Monsters Inc.-inspired series Monsters at Work, but there’s a lot of big news for us to share with you today!
The first exciting news is that Disney+ is coming so soon! You can begin streaming Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and more on November 12, 2019!
Next up: we’re excited to share some of the amazing shows and movies coming to Disney+. Ready? Here we go:
Disney
Get the popcorn ready because an extensive library of Disney classics is headed to Disney+, with favorites like Mary Poppins, Alice in Wonderland, A Goofy Movie, and so much more.
Grab your partner and make some spaghetti because a live-action Lady and the Tramp will be available when Disney+ launches! The film will be starring Tessa Thompson, the voice of Lady, and Justin Theroux, the voice of Tramp!
Anna Kendrick will help ring in the holidays with Noelle, a film we can’t wait to watch over and over again in the holiday season. The film will be available in year one of Disney+!
Diary of a Female President, starring Gina Rodriguez and Emily Gipson, follows a middle school Cuban-American girl aspiring to grow up and become the future President of the United States. It will be available in year one of Disney+.
Timmy Failure, a new Disney original film, will launch in the first year of the service and is directed by Academy Award winner Tom McCarthy. It tells the story of Timmy who, along with his 1,500-pound polar bear, Total, operates TOTAL FAILURE INC., a world-class detective agency that really only exists in his mind.
Stargirl, a film based on the New York Times Best-Selling book, will also be available on Disney+ in year one. It tells the story of Leo Borlock, played by Graham Verchere, an average 16-year old who meets Stargirl, played by Grace VanderWaal, and gets his whole life flipped upside down.
Look out for Togo in year one of Disney+, a new original film starring Willem Dafoe that tells the real-life tale of a man and his lead sled dog's incredible journey through the Alaskan tundra.
Walt Disney Animation Studios
Into the Unknown: Making Frozen 2 takes us behind the scenes and into the making of the Frozen II, which, by the way, will also make its way to Disney+ in year one.
Pixar
We’re really happy to hear that every Pixar film will be available on Disney+ during the first year of its launch, including Pixar shorts! #BLESS
Disney+ will also be the exclusive home of SparkShorts, the Pixar Animation Studios short film series designed to discover new storytellers, which will be available at launch of the service!
Bo Peep will have her very own Pixar short called Lamp Life, and truly our reaction to that was “Yasss, Bo.” Plus, a new animated short series titled Forky Asks a Question sounds like the most relatable thing ever. Since Forky was only just made out of trash, he has so many questions for the world like, “What is love?” “What is time?” and more. Lamp Life will be available in year one of the service, and Forky Asks a Question will be available at launch.
Marvel Studios
Captain Marvel will take flight on Disney+! Available day one of the streaming service, you can watch Captain Marvel from your TV, computer, phone, or tablet, wherever you are.
A new live-action series WandaVision will star Elizabeth Olsen returning as Wanda Maximoff and Paul Bettany reprising his role as The Vision.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is a new series starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, and is sure to be an adventure for Marvel Studios fans.
Marvel’s What If…? will be the first animated series from Marvel Studios, available in year one of Disney+! Inspired by the comic books of the same name, each episode will explore key moments from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and turn it on its head.
We previously shared our excitement around Loki, a Marvel Studios series starring our low-key fave (get it?) Tom Hiddleston, and now it’s coming to Disney+.
Star Wars
Star Wars fans will be excited to hear that Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk are joining forces once again for a new show based on Cassian Andor.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars will also be available in year one of Disney+.
The first-ever Star Wars series The Mandalorian will premiere day one of Disney+. It will star Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog and Nick Nolte, and is written and executive produced by Jon Favreau who said:
We’re having a great time working with this incredibly talented group and excited for everyone to see what we’re up to.
Us, too, Jon. Us, too.
Disney Channel
Cetus-Lupeedus! Five-thousand episodes of Disney Channel shows will be available at the launch of Disney+. Plus, we should probably start blocking out time in our calendars because one-hundred Disney Channel Original Movies are coming to the service on day one, too.
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series really is the start of something new! The 10-episode scripted series will be set at the real-life East High (where the original movie was filmed) and follow students to their opening night of their production of High School Musical. It’s an incredible new chapter, and we can’t wait to start watching on day one of Disney+.
Disney Television Animation
Phineas and Ferb fans unite! A Phineas and Ferb Movie is coming exclusively to Disney+ in year one as well!
National Geographic
With National Geographic now part of the Disney family, you can stream beautiful, cinematographic content from every corner of the world. And here’s the real cliffhanger: Free Solo will be coming to Disney+ on day one.
And as if that wasn’t enough, a new National Geographic series, The World According to Jeff Goldblum, will be available at launch. In the series, Jeff will be revealing a world of astonishing connections in seemingly familiar objects. Amazing!
Magic of the Animal Kingdom is a new documentary series where we’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like to take care of the wildlife at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Epcot’s SeaBase aquarium. It will be available in year one.
20th Century Fox
Fox feature films and shows are also joining Disney+! Classic films like The Sound of Music and The Princess Bride, and beloved shows like Malcolm in the Middle will be available to stream, bringing stories of all kinds to one place.
The Simpsons
Get ready! The Simpsons will be making Disney+ their exclusive home for streaming, with 30 seasons of the show available at launch! Disney+ will welcome classic Simpsons characters that have humored fans for over 30 years.
Phew! As you can see, there are so many exciting things to look forward to on Disney+! And it all starts November 12, 2019. Disney+ is available for pre-order in the US. Be among the first to have it and start streaming November 12.
