Get ready for a new heroine. Raya and the Last Dragon, an upcoming fantasy-action-adventure from Walt Disney Animation Studios, was announced during the Walt Disney Studios panel at D23 Expo today!

The animated film follows Raya, a lone warrior from the fantasy kingdom of Kumandra, who teams up with a crew of misfits in her quest to find the Last Dragon — thus bringing light and unity back to their world. Cassie Steele will voice the lead character Raya, and Awkwafina lends her voice to Sisu, the Last Dragon.

Inspired by the beautiful and diverse cultures of Southeast Asia, Raya and the Last Dragon will explore themes of community and hope.

At the panel, Chief Creative Officer Jennifer Lee brought out directors Paul Briggs and Dean Wellins (Big Hero 6, Frozen), producer Osnat Shurer (Moana), and writer Adele Lim to introduce this incredible film to a packed crowd at D23 Expo, accompanied by a viewing of an exclusive three-minute piece. With a cast and crew like that, we know it’s going to be good. We’ll be the first ones in theaters when Raya and the Last Dragon arrives November 25, 2020!
