We are so excited to see the final installment of the Skywalker saga directed by J. J. Abrams, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Terrio.
But we’ve got a good feeling about this because the cast who will help make it happen in Star Wars: Episode IX was announced!
We can’t wait to see the faces of our returning faves, including Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd once again. But we’re also thrilled to meet newcomers Naomi Ackie, Keri Russell, and Richard E. Grant! And of course, the cast of Star Wars: Episode IX isn’t complete without iconic Star Wars veterans Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams, who will be taking on the role of Lando Calrissian once again.
Last but most definitely not least, Leia Organa will be played by the one and only Carrie Fisher using previously unreleased footage shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Abrams said:
“We desperately loved Carrie Fisher. Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”
We’ll be crying real tears when we reunite with our heroine on the big screen for the last time.
Filming is set to begin at London’s Pinewood Studios on August 1, 2018, and Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled for release in December 2019. What an amazing end to our year—we can't wait!
