Director Kenny Ortega regaled us with behind-the-scenes memories about the cast and the making of Hocus Pocus!
We’re fully in the throes of Halloween season, which means it’s time to watch Hocus Pocus on repeat. As luck would have it, for one of these repeat viewings, we got to watch it with director Kenny Ortega himself (at the stage on which the movie was shot!), who regaled us with behind-the-scenes memories about the cast and the making of the movie. This was such a dream come true! Check it out:
We are fully shook that Leonardo DiCaprio came in to meet with Ortega about playing a role in Hocus Pocus! While he did mention that it was for the role of Max, we will now forever gleefully envision a world in which Leo played every single role in Hocus Pocus, just because we can.
“I was just as happy with Omri [Katz], I promise,” said Ortega.
As for the iconic Sanderson sisters, Ortega recalled his first day on set: “What I really, really remember [is] observing Bette and Kathy and Sarah really finding their characters, in the mirror with makeup, hair, prosthetics, and I just burst out laughing. Looking at one another, you saw this chemistry come into play, and I knew we were going to have a lot of fun.”
