Here’s the inside scoop on what we learned from Brie Larson during a visit to the set of Captain Marvel!

If you’re as obsessed with the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we are, then you’re probably eagerly waiting for the Marvel Studios’ newest installment, Captain Marvel, to hit theaters. From the nostalgia of being set in the ‘90s to the excitement of seeing Brie Larson as Carol Danvers (AKA Captain Marvel) on the big screen, the film gives us so much to look forward to in March 2019!

Earlier this year, we were #blessed with the opportunity to chat with Larson during a visit to the set of the film. Here’s the inside scoop on what we learned from her:

  1. Despite taking on a huge role, she didn’t feel nervous.

When it comes to taking on a film like Captain Marvel, it wouldn’t be unusual for anyone to have their fair share of nerves. However, because of her love for the character, Brie Larson was able to find a way to keep her head down and be fearless about the role. She described her thought process: “I don’t feel nervous. I find the character so inspiring that whenever I feel nervous and scared ... I can turn to her and feel like ‘No, I got this.’ And that feels really awesome ... I have the same awe over her that a lot of her fans do.” Wow. Note to self: let’s all channel our inner Carol Danvers whenever we’re feeling nervous.

  2. The script was written by women.

A team of women came together to develop the script for Captain Marvel. In the words of Larson, this was an element that she felt was important to the story: “I didn’t realize how vital [having a script written by women] was until I read it for the first time and realized little things ... And the beauty of this is that there’s been so many women involved in the making of it that I don’t feel like I’ve had to fight as much ‘cause I felt understood from the beginning. If you’re gonna tell this story, you’ve got to make sure that it’s really embedded in everything.” Yasss, we’re here for this #girlpower!

  3. A lot of training was put into becoming Captain Marvel.

Being in an action-packed movie filled with stunts isn’t easy. In preparation for her role, Larson spent nine months training to build her resilience. She explained the reasoning behind her dedication, “I knew that if I could go through that experience, I would get closer to [the character] ... You can get to a point where you’re just sort of being.” How awesome does that sound? This has been an accomplishment that she has grown to be proud of: “If I was seeing this movie I think it would mean so much more to me knowing that there was that type of dedication put into it, and that it’s not just CGI. It’s girls [who] are strong.”

  4. She is excited to be a part of the Marvel Studios family.

As Carol Danvers, AKA Captain Marvel, Larson has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe filled with legendary stars like Chris Hemsworth, Chadwick Boseman, and more! She elaborated on the emotions she felt as she posed for a group photo with these fellow superheroes: “This is a family and you feel it.  I could feel it that day. You can feel the history. You can feel the love. You can feel how much time these people have spent together, and I was just really grateful that they were so generous and so excited about me joining it, and so open to answering my questions.” Is there an application for us to join this squad as well?!

  5. She finds the character to be revolutionary.

Captain Marvel is turning heads and making an impact as a character who is nothing less than true to herself. “I love that she’s unapologetic. I love that she’s not apologizing for her strength. She’s never trying to shrink herself because of who she is. And she can’t even be somebody else if she wanted to. It’s like she can’t be contained. And I think that is such a beautiful thing,” says Larson.

Wow, who else is feeling incredibly inspired by Brie Larson? Be sure to mark your calendars for when Captain Marvel arrives in theaters on March 8, 2019!
